The spring supports the treatment of the following diseases:
- Kidney and urinary tract diseases
The Ambrose Spring is pure acidulous water with a high iron content. In earlier times, it used to be applied in particular for anaemias arising from iron deficiency. Nowadays, there exist varied tablets or injections for anaemia and the Ambrose Spring is not used as intensively as before. This spring is highly suitable for phosphate kidney stones.
A very interesting tradition is connected with the Ambrose Spring – they say that during his stays in Marianske Lazne, Goethe used to drink from the Ambrose Spring abundantly and regularly. At that time Goethe experienced the last love of his life with Ulrike von Levetzow. The legend has it that during that time, Goethe was very strong specifically thanks to this cure. This is why guests arriving from English-speaking countries call this spring the Spring of Love, Germans call it Quelle der Liebe, Russians call it Istochnik ljubi and the Czech say “pramen lasky”. Hence, whoever wants to fall in love in Marianske Lazne, should go and drink from the Ambrose Spring.
When is it accessible and to whom?
The spring is freely available to the public. It is inaccessible only during the period from October to April (the winter season)
Where can the spring be found?
The Ambrose Spring is located in a small park under the Central Spa. Please refer to the map.
The drinking cure is a complex process, it should always be considered that a certain kind of water is suitable for specific problems but it can be highly inappropriate for other disorders. The drinking therapy must always be consulted with a physician because improperly applied drinking cure may cause harm.
