Marianske Lazne ranks among the youngest Czech spas, although the unique composition of local waters was known for many centuries. Today, visitors and residents can only hardly imagine the original appearance of this charming place – before the construction of richly decorated spa colonnades and hotels, the Marianske Lazne valley was covered in wild natural vegetation, full of swamps dangerous to life.

The construction of the spa in all its present-day glory cost a great deal of work and effort of prominent architects, patriots, and builders. From among the most famous ones, let’s mention the town’s founder, the abbot Karl Kaspar Reitenberger whose statue can be seen by the Main Colonnade, or the brilliant garden designer Vaclav Skalnik, after whom (not only) the most important spa park is named.

However, it is not only the beauty of the town that visitors of Marianske Lazne appreciate. The fame of the town is based in particular on the local traditional natural medicine, which has been helping guests with curing a whole series of indications for over two centuries. Thanks to the diverse composition of local waters, Marianske Lazne are cited as the most versatile Czech spa.
The treatment in Marianske Lazne comprises of a whole number of unique procedures, which the patients may undergo exclusively in the local spa hotels. The local speciality is the treatment with natural carbon dioxide, rising as as one of the local springs to the surface right from the bowels of the Earth. Apart from unique natural resources, the wealth of Marianske Lazne is embodied also by experienced staff who, in their work, follow the local long-standing research and historical experience. For many years, Marianske Lazne was the seat of the Institute for Balneological Research, and discoveries as significant as e.g. the modern method of blood pressure measurement, saw the light here.
